Other Issues

If the machine stops operating correctly, check the following issues as well as the Brother support website (https://s.brother/cfqag/) before requesting service.
If the issue persists, contact the retailer where this machine was purchased or a Brother authorized service center.

Power Supply Issues

The machine cannot be turned on.

Make sure that the power cord is correctly plugged in.
If the machine cannot be turned on even if the power cord is correctly plugged in, unplug the cord and leave it for about 10 sec. and plug it again.

Setting Up the Machine

Machine Issues

The LED on the Bluetooth button does not flash when the machine is turned on.

Power may have been lost while the machine was being updated. The Bluetooth LED will not light until the update is complete. When power is restored, the machine will automatically restart the update and you must wait until it is complete.

Updating the Machine

The machine stopped mid-operation.

The material or mat has not been loaded correctly. Load the material or mat as instructed.

Some material may remain inside the machine. Remove the material, and then try again.

The thickness of the material being cut is incompatible with this machine. Use compatible material.

Simple Matless Cutting

If the machine overheats from overuse, it will shut down. Turn off the machine and leave it alone for 30 minutes before turning it on again. If the error message in Artspira appears when cutting or drawing again, the machine is not cool down enough and needs additional time. Turn off the machine and let it cool completely.

Cutting or drawing does not start.

The mode change lever (on the left side of the machine) is in the incorrect position. Before starting the operation, set the lever to the position appropriate for the material and operation being used.

The feed roller may not be correctly positioned. Check the position of the feed roller, and adjust it if necessary.

Adjusting the Feed Roller Position

The shaft may be unlocked. Set the shaft release lever to the locked position.

Adjusting the Feed Roller Position

The end of the material is curled and fed in askew. When using Simple Matless Cutting on material with a width of 12" (305 mm), remove any curl, and install the Feed Supporter onto the machine to feed the material.

If Your Material Has a Curled Leading Edge

The material or mat cannot be detected.

The dotted marks on the mat are dirty. Clean the dotted marks and their surrounding areas.

Cleaning

The dotted marks on the mat are hidden by material or tape attached to the mat. Attach the material or tape so that it fits within the adhesive area of the mat.

Attaching Material to the Mat

The mat was inserted with the wrong side. Insert the mat so that the side with the material attached is facing up.

Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat

The mat was inserted in the wrong orientation. Insert the mat in the correct orientation.

Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat

The mat is incompatible with this machine. Use a compatible mat.

[Mat] was switched on when creating data, but material was fed without a mat. Select the correct setting with [Settings] menu in the [Preview] screen, and then feed again.

The material or mat is not fed in straight.

The material or mat was inserted into the feed slot askew. Press the Feed button to eject the material or mat, and then re-insert it correctly.

The edge of the mat may be curled or otherwise deformed. Replace the mat with a new one.

The feed roller may not be correctly positioned. Check the position of the feed roller, and adjust it if necessary.

Adjusting the Feed Roller Position

The leading edge of the material may be curled. If you are not using a mat, remove any curl from the material before feeding it. If the curl cannot be removed, install the Feed Supporter onto the machine to feed the material. If the size of the material you are using is other than 12" (305 mm) width, use a mat.

If Your Material Has a Curled Leading Edge

Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat

The material or mat cannot be ejected.

The material or mat may not have been inserted correctly before being fed and may have become jammed. Set the mode change lever to the ▲ position, unlock the shaft release levers, turn off the machine, unplug the power cord, remove the holder, and then slowly pull out the material or mat by hand.

Jammed Material or Mat

When the mat is inserted, the attached material peels off.

The mat is not level due to the weight of the material. Hold the mat level as you insert it.

The mat’s adhesive is losing strength. Replace the mat with a new one.

Material remains inside the machine and cannot fed (with Simple Matless Cutting)

If the material cannot be fed with (Feed Button) and remains inside the machine, the material may be shorter than the length that can be feed. Unlock both shaft release lever and raise the mode change lever, then remove the material.

Use material that is compatible with Simple Matless Cutting or use the cutting mat.

Drawing Issues

The drawn line is thicker or thinner than intended.

The drawing speed or pressure may not be appropriate. From [Preview] screen, tap [Settings] > [Machine Settings] > [Draw Settings], and then adjust the setting. After making adjustments, test draw on a corner of the material.

Positioning Issues

The cutting position is misaligned.

The registration marks may not have been printed correctly. Print the registration marks again if they are smeared, incomplete, or printed with any color other than black.

Overview of Alignment Cutting Function

The registration marks may not have been printed in the correct positions. If printing was not done in actual size, change the print settings, and then print again. If the print position is misaligned, refer to the manual for the printer, and adjust the print position before printing.

Overview of Alignment Cutting Function

Glossy materials may interfere with the machine’s ability to detect the registration marks. Use different material.

Overview of Alignment Cutting Function

Exposing the machine to strong, direct light may interfere with the machine’s ability to detect the registration marks. Place the machine in a location where it is not exposed to direct light, and turn off other light sources.

The cutting position may not be adjusted. Perform [Calibration] in Artspira to adjust.
(With Simple Matless Cutting) If the cutting position remains misaligned, even after adjusting it, use a mat for cutting.

Adjust the Cutting Position

Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat

There may be an object around the slot of the machine that is causing an obstruction during cutting. Make sure the slot is always clear so that your material or mat have enough space.

Before Use

The machine may be installed on a surface that is not level. Place the machine on a flat, level surface.

Before Use

If the material is not firmly attached or becomes creased during cutting, the cutting position may become misaligned. Use a mat when cutting.

Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat

The registration marks cannot be detected.

The material is not oriented correctly. Feed it in the correct orientation.

Cutting with the Alignment Cutting Function

The leading edge of the material or mat may be curled. If the material or mat is curled or creased, the registration marks may not be detected properly. Change the material or replace the mat with a new one.

The size specified in Artspira may not match the size specified in the print settings or the size of the loaded material. Check the print settings on the printer, and then print again. If the material size does not match, check the size setting in Artspira.

The Artspira setting may not match the loaded material or mat. With Simple Matless Cutting, switch off [Mat] in the [Select Mat Size] screen, before editing, and then transfer the data. When using a cutting mat, switch on [Mat], and then transfer the data again.

The printing of the registration marks may be misaligned. When printing from the printer’s manual feed tray, the paper may not be fed straight. Try printing from a different tray, or check the printer settings. For details on using the printer, refer to its manual.

An unexpected error may have occurred. Eject the material, and then turn the machine off, then on again. To cut the same data, use the [History] screen to transfer the data to the machine again. If the operation repeatedly fails, contact the retailer where this machine was purchased or a Brother authorized service center.

Other Functions

The material becomes dirty during or after cutting.

The feed rollers or the rollers on the shaft (back) may be dirty. Wipe off any dirt with a dry soft cloth, and then try again.
