Material Not Cutting Cleanly

Material not cutting cleanly is caused by various reasons, including those listed below.
Check each to try to identify the problem, and when the problem is cleared, you can resume working on your project.


The material catches on the tip of the blade.
	If scraps and dust have accumulated in the holder, clean it out. Cleaning the Holder
	The blade may be worn. Replace the blade with a new one. Replacing the Blade
	The material being cut is incompatible with this machine. Use compatible material. Simple Matless Cutting Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat
Some areas remain uncut.
	If scraps and dust have accumulated in the holder, clean it out. Cleaning the Holder
	The cutting pressure may be too light for the material. Increase the cutting pressure settings. From [Preview] screen, tap [Settings] > [Machine Settings] > [Cut Settings], and then adjust the setting.
	If the cutting pressure setting is significantly increased but there are still cutting issues, the blade may be chipped. Replace the blade with a new one. Replacing the Blade

	The material or tape reinforcing does not fit within the grid on the adhesive side of the mat. Re-attach the material so that it fits within the adhesive area of the mat. Cutting or Drawing Using a Cutting Mat
	The spacing between arranged patterns is too small. Rearrange the patterns to separate them or use an auto layout function.
Half cuts cannot be made.
	The half cut setting is switched off. Select [Half Cut] in the [Settings] screen.
	If the backing is being cut, the cutting pressure may be too strong. Decrease the cutting pressure setting. From [Preview] screen, tap [Settings] > [Machine Settings] > [Cut Settings], and then adjust the setting.
Perforation cuts cannot be made (with Simple Matless Cutting).
	The cutting machine may not be able to make perforation cuts in paper with coarse fibers. Change the material and try one of the following: Use material with fine fibers and a smooth surface. Use only half cuts. Cut using a cutting mat. Simple Matless Cutting
	The cutting machine may not be able to make perforation cuts in some thick materials. Make sure that the material is compatible with this machine. Simple Matless Cutting
	The material may be too hard or have too many layers for perforation cuts. Increase the cutting pressure settings. From [Preview] screen, tap [Settings] > [Machine Settings] > [Cut Settings], and then adjust the setting. If the problem persists after increasing the cutting pressure, use the cutting mat.
The pattern gets crushed when using perforation cuts (with Simple Matless Cutting).
	The cutting pressure may be too strong. Decrease the cutting pressure setting. From [Preview] screen, tap [Settings] > [Machine Settings] > [Cut Settings], and then adjust the setting.
There are deep cuts completely through the mat.
	The cutting pressure may be too strong. Decrease the cutting pressure setting. From [Preview] screen, tap [Settings] > [Machine Settings] > [Cut Settings], and then adjust the setting.

After changing the cutting pressure setting, perform a test cut to make sure that the cut and the settings work for your material.
