I need to expand my device's memory so I can save additional print jobs, fonts, macros, and streams.

Click the video link below for a step-by-step guide on how to expand your Brother device's memory using a USB flash drive.

NOTE:

  • If you change the Job Save Location, the data saved in the device is deleted. It is recommended that, before changing the Job Save Location, you save the fonts, macros, and stream data saved in the device's memory, to another location if necessary.

  • If you use the USB Storage Print function, save the data in the USB flash drive separately in advance if necessary. Macros, stream, and font data are deleted when you activate the function.

  • Expand Device Memory, a memory upgrade function, is used to store:

    - Secure print jobs
    - Fonts
    - Brother printer driver-generated macros
    - Brother printer driver-generated streams

    Q:

How does saving to a USB flash drive protect a secure print job?

    A:

Instead of being printed when you click the Print button, secure print jobs are saved to a USB flash drive and are not released until you enter a password on the device's control panel.

For more information about Secure Print, see the Secure Print solution page.

    Q:

Which Brother functions support secure print jobs that can be stored on a USB flash drive?

    A:

Secure print jobs are supported by the following Brother functions:
    - Secure Print
    - Secure Print+ (premium solution)
    - Active Directory Authentication
    - LDAP/ LDAPS Authentication

    Q:

    Is the stored data encrypted?

    A:

Yes, to the AES 256bit standard.

    Q:

Is it possible to read stored data from one Brother device's USB flash drive on another Brother device?

    A:

No, the data can be read only on the Brother device where the data was originally stored.

    Q:

Can I use the USB ports on both the front and the back of my Brother device?

    A:

Sorry, only the USB port on the back works for this function.

    Q:

What USB flash drives does my Brother device support?

    A:

The USB direct interface supports USB flash drives that use the USB mass storage standard. Go to your product's Manuals page on the Brother support website to see the USB flash memory specifications in the Online User's Guide.
