Scan to E-mail Server overview (MFC-6490CW and MFC-6890CDW)

When you choose Scan to E-mail (E-mail Server) you can scan a black and white or color document and send it directly to an E-mail address from the machine. You can choose PDF or TIFF for Black and White and PDF or JPEG for color.

Note

•	Scan to E-mail (E-mail Server) requires SMTP/POP3 mail server support. (See E-mail/I-FAX (For MFC-6490CW and MFC-6890CDW).)
•	MFC-5890CN and MFC-5895CW can be also assigned an E-mail address allowing you to send, receive or forward documents over a Local Area Network or the Internet to PC's or other Internet Fax machines. In order to use this function, please download the necessary software from the Brother Solutions Center (http://solutions.brother.com).

For MFC-6490CW

Load your document.

Press the

(Scan) key.

Press

to choose Scan to E-mail.

Press OK.

Press

to choose E-mail Server.

Press OK.

Press

to choose Quality.

If you don't want to change the quality or file type, press

and then enter destination address, go to 8.

Press

to choose Color 150 dpi, Color 300 dpi, Color 600 dpi, B/W 200x100 dpi or B/W 200 dpi.

Press OK.

Press

to choose File Type.

Press

to choose PDF or JPEG for color or gray scale documents and PDF or TIFF for B/W documents.

Press OK.

Note

If you are using the scanner glass of the machine, choose the document size.

•	Press to choose Glass ScanSize.
•	Press or to choose Letter, Legal, Ledger, A4 or A3 for US or A4, A3, Letter, Legal or Ledger for UK. Press OK.

Press

to choose

. Enter the destination E-mail address from the dial pad.

Note

You can also use E-mail addresses you have stored in your machine.

•	Press or to choose Phone Book. Press .
•	Press or to choose Alphabetical Order or Numerical Order. Press OK.
•	Press or to choose the E-mail address you want. Press OK. Press OK again.

(For US) Black Start or Color Start.

(For UK) Mono Start or Colour Start.

The machine will start the scanning process.

If you are using the scanner glass, the LCD displays Next Page?. Press 1 for Yes or press 2 for No.

For MFC-6890CDW

Load your document.

Press the

(Scan) key.

Press Scan to E-mail.

Press E-mail Server.

Press Manual to enter the destination E-mail address.

Press OK.

Note

You can also use E-mail address you have stored in your machine.

•	Press Phone Book.
•	Press to search by Alphabetical Order or Numerical Order.
•	Press or to choose the E-mail address you want.

If your network supports the LDAP protocol you can search for E-mail addresses on your server. See LDAP operation (For MFC-6890CDW).

Press

to choose Quality.

Choose the quality you want.

If you don't want to change the quality or file type, go to 8.

Press

to choose File Type.

Choose the file type you want.

If you don't want to change the file type, go to 8.

Note

•	Press or to choose Glass ScanSize.
•	Choose the document size you want.

(For US) Black Start or Color Start.

(For UK) Mono Start or Colour Start.

The machine starts the scanning process.

If you are using the scanner glass, the LCD displays Next Page?. Press Yes or No.
