Copy on Both Sides of the Paper (2-sided Copy)

Reduce the amount of paper you use by copying onto both sides of the paper.
  • You must choose a 2-sided copy layout from the options listed below before you start 2-sided copying.
  • The layout of your original document determines which 2-sided copy layout you should choose.
  • Use the scanner glass to manually make 2-sided copies from a 2-sided document.
  • You can use only Letter, A4, A5, or Executive size plain paper.

MFC-J1360DW/MFC-J1365DW/MFC-J4355DW

  1. (MFC-J4355DW) Press image (Copy).
  2. (MFC-J4355DW) Enter the number of copies using the dial pad.
  3. (MFC-J1360DW/MFC-J1365DW) Press - or + on the control panel to enter the number of copies.
  4. To sort multiple copies, press image or image to select the following:
    1. Select the [Stack/Sort] option. Press OK.
    2. Select the [Sort] option. Press OK.
  5. Press image or image to select the [2-sided Copy] option. Press OK.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • To make 2-sided copies from a 1-sided document, press image or image to select the following:

      1. To change the layout options, select [Layout]. Press OK.
      2. Select the [Long Edge Flip] or [Short Edge Flip] option. Press OK.
      3. Select [1sided⇒2sided]. Press OK.
    • To make 2-sided copies of a 2-sided document manually, place the document on the scanner glass, press image or image to select the [2sided⇒2sided] option. Press OK.
  7. Press Black Start or Color Start. If you placed the document in the ADF, the machine scans the pages and starts printing.
  8. If using the scanner glass, repeat the following steps for each page of the document:
    • Place the next page on the scanner glass, and then press image to scan the page.
    • After scanning all the pages, press image to start printing.

DO NOT touch the printed page until it is completely ejected. The machine prints the first side, extends the paper, then retracts it to print the second side.

Wait until the paper is resting in the output tray before retrieving it.

If you experience smudged printouts or paper jams, follow these steps:

  1. (MFC-J4355DW) Press image (Ink).

    (MFC-J1360DW/MFC-J1365DW) Press image (Ink).

  2. Select [Print Options]. Press OK.
  3. Select the [Reduce Smudging] option. Press OK.
  4. Change settings. Press OK.

MFC-J1410DW/MFC-J4555DW

  1. Press image [Copy].
  2. Enter the number of copies in one of the following ways:
    • Press [-] or [+] on the touchscreen.
    • Press image to display the keyboard on the touchscreen, and then enter the number of copies using the touchscreen keyboard. Press [OK].
  3. To sort multiple copies, press image[Options]>[Stack/Sort]>[Sort].
  4. Press image or image to display the [2-sided Copy] option, and then press it.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • To make 2-sided copies from a 1-sided document, follow these steps:

      1. To change the layout options, press [Layout], and then press [Long Edge Flip] or [Short Edge Flip].
      2. Press [1-sided⇒2-sided].
    • To make 2-sided copies of a 2-sided document manually, press [2-sided⇒2-sided].

  6. Review your settings on the touchscreen, and then press [OK].
  7. Press [Black Start] or [Color Start]. If you placed the document in the ADF, the machine scans the pages and starts printing.
  8. If you are using the scanner glass, repeat the following steps for each page of the document:
    • Place the next page on the scanner glass, and then press [Continue] to scan the page.
    • After scanning all the pages, press [Finish].

DO NOT touch the printed page until it is completely ejected. The machine prints the first side, extends the paper, then retracts it to print the second side.

Wait until the paper is resting in the output tray before retrieving it.
