Will my Brother machine work with Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)?
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a type of phone system that uses an internet connection, rather than a traditional phone line.
VoIP provides telephone service through a broadband internet connection rather than through a traditional phone line. VoIP works by breaking up the voice signal into packets which are compressed and transmitted via the internet. VoIP services are often not compatible with fax machines unless the provider explicitly states they support fax over IP services.
Your Brother machine does not support the use of VoIP, but if you would like to attempt to use your Brother machine to send and receive faxes on a VoIP system, make sure your telephone line connections are correct:
- One end of the telephone line must be connected to the jack on the Brother machine labeled LINE.
- When using VoIP, the other end of the telephone line may be connected to a modem, interface box, phone adapter, splitter, etc. This is determined by your VoIP provider.
