FAQs & Troubleshooting

Uninstall the drivers. (macOS 13 or greater)

Follow the instructions below.

NOTE: The screens may differ depending on the operating system being used and your Brother machine.

If several Brother machines are installed on your Mac and you want to uninstall only one of the drivers, it is required that you uninstall all of them first and then re-install the drivers for the machines you need. (You cannot uninstall the driver of a specific machine on its own.)

 

Remove your Brother machine from the list of available printers or scanners

  1. Disconnect the USB cable between the Mac and your Brother machine. (if applicable)
  2. Log on as an "Administrator".
  3. Click the Apple Menu and select System Settings.
  4. Scroll and select Printers & Scanners in the left navigation bar.
  5. Select your Brother machine from the list.
    If your machine name is not listed, click here to see how to uninstall the software and drivers.
  6. Click Remove PrinterRemove Fax or Remove Scanner.
    When the confirmation screen appears, click Remove Printer, Remove Fax or Remove Scanner again.
    Repeat this step for all installed Brother machines.

 

Uninstall the Software and Drivers

  1. In the Finder menu bar, click Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Printers.
  2. Move the Brother folder to trash.
    When prompted, enter the Mac Administrator's password in the dialogue box and then click OK.
    *If you do not find any Brother folder, go to the next step.
  3. In the Finder menu bar, click Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources.
  4. Move all Brother [model name] CUPS.gz files and Brother [model name].gz files to trash.
    When prompted, enter the Mac Administrator's password in the dialogue box and then click OK.
    *If you do not find any Brother [model name] CUPS.gz files and Brother [model name].gz files, go to the next step.
  5. In the Finder menu bar, click Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Image Capture > Twain Data Sources.
  6. Move the Brother TWAIN.ds and/or Brother TWAIN2.ds files to trash.
    When prompted, enter the Mac Administrator's password in the dialogue box and then click OK.
    *If you do not find any Brother TWAIN.ds and Brother TWAIN2.ds files, go to the next step.
  7. Then, you need to delete the ICA driver.
    In the Finder menu bar, click Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Image Capture > Devices.
  8. Move the Brother Scanner file to trash.
    When prompted, enter the Mac Administrator's password in the dialogue box and then click OK.
    *If you do not find any Brother Scanner file, go to the next step.
  9. Then, you need to delete the application.
    In the Finder menu bar, click Go > Applications.
  10. Move the Brother folder to trash.
    When prompted, enter the Mac Administrator's password in the dialogue box and then click OK.
    *If you do not find any Brother folder, go to the next step.
  11. Empty the trash bin.
  12. Reboot the Mac.
