When a large capacity xD-Picture Card™ is inserted into the media slot, I have noticed that the copy speed in "Best" quality mode is slower than when the media (memory) card is removed. Why?

This is normal. When you insert a xD-Picture Card™ into the PhotoCapture Center™, the machine allocates a percentage of its built in memory so that it can access the media (memory) card. The percentage of memory allocated varies depending on the size of the media (memory) card. Since some of the built in memory will be unavailable, the copying speed decreases as the size of the media (memory) card increases. When the media (memory) card is removed, this memory is released and copy speed increases to its original speed.
