My Apple device (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, etc.) does not automatically reconnect via Bluetooth® when I turn the printer off and on again, or when the device moves out of range.

You can reconnect your printer and Apple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, etc.) (hereinafter referred to as “Apple device”) automatically by using the new Bluetooth auto reconnection feature.

To enable this feature, you need to download and install firmware version 1.12 or later.

 

Refer to the FAQ: "How to identify the printer's firmware version".  If your printer's firmware is not up to date, go to the [Downloads] section of this website and download the latest firmware version.
 

The Bluetooth auto reconnection feature allows you to store the previous Bluetooth connection settings, and reconnect to the Apple devices automatically if the device moves out of range, the printer is turned off and on, or the connection is lost for some other reason.

 

  • If the Bluetooth indicator is blinking, the Bluetooth connection is not established.
  • If the Bluetooth indicator is lit, a Bluetooth connection is established.
  1. Check the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature settings

     

    You can check the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature settings by printing the printer information report.
    Do the following steps:

    1. Turn the printer on and make sure no paper is loaded.
    2. Press and hold the power button until the DATA indicator lights in red. Insert a sheet of genuine Brother thermal paper into the printer's paper input slot.
    3. The report will be printed automatically. When finished, make sure the "BT RECONNECT" section in the report shows "BT RECONNECT : ON".

    While the Bluetooth indicator is lit or blinking, you can switch the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature on/off by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button until the printer power is off.

  2. Connect another Apple device via Bluetooth

     

    To connect the printer to another Apple device via Bluetooth, do the following:

    1. Turn off the Bluetooth connection of the currently connected Apple device.
    2. Turn on the Bluetooth connection of the Apple device that you want to connect and select the printer to connect.

      If the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature setting is on, it may take a long time to connect another Apple device. To avoid this, turn the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature setting off. Then perform the step 2 and turn the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature setting on.

    3. Turn the printer off and then on again.
      Your Apple device and the printer are now connected via Bluetooth.

You can also set the Bluetooth auto reconnection feature from the Printer Setting Tool.
