FAQs & Troubleshooting

Can I set my Brother machine to forward the faxes I receive to another location?

You can use your Brother machine's Fax Forwarding feature to forward the faxes you receive to another location. When you choose Fax Forward, your machine stores the received fax in the memory. The machine will then dial the fax number you've programmed and forward the fax message.

For Color Laser/ LED product users:
When Fax Forwarding is on, you cannot receive a color fax unless the sending machine converts it to black and white.
To set up Fax Forwarding follow the steps listed below:

  1. Press MENU or MENU/SET.
  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Fax, and press OK or MENU/SET.
  3. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Remote Fax Opt, and press OK or MENU/SET.
  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Fwd/Page/Store (Forward/Store), and press OK or MENU/SET.
  5. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Fax Forward.
  6. Press OK or MENU/SET. Your Brother machine's LCD will ask you to enter the fax number to which faxes will be forwarded.
  7. Enter the fax number you want your faxes to be forwarded to.
You can enter the number using the dial pad (up to 20 digits), a One-Touch key, or by pressing Search/Speed Dial and entering a three-digit Speed Dial location.

If you program the Brother machine to forward your faxes to a One-Touch or Speed Dial location that is programmed as a Group, then your faxes will be forwarded to every number stored in that Group.

  8. Press OK or MENU/SET.
  9. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Backup Print: On or Backup Print: Off.

If you turn the Backup Print feature on, your Brother machine will print a copy of the fax as it is received in addition to forwarding it to the designated number. This is a precaution in case there is a problem with the receiving machine or a power outage occurs before the fax is forwarded. In the event of a power outage, faxes in your Brother machine's memory will be stored for up to four days.

  10. Press OK or MENU/SET.
  11. Press STOP/EXIT.

To turn Fax Forwarding off follow the steps listed below:

  5. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Off.
  6. Press OK or MENU/SET.

If you turn Remote Fax Options off and there are faxes in the machine's memory, the machine will give you two options:

    • If you press 1, all unprinted faxes will be printed and erased before the setting is turned off. If a backup copy has already been printed, it will not be printed again.

    • If you press 2, the memory will not be erased and Remote Fax Options will remain on.

  7. Press OK or MENU/SET.
  8. Press STOP/EXIT.
