I have upgraded my Macintosh to OS X 10.9, and now I cannot scan using the Image Capture software.
This issue occurs because the ICA scanner driver required by the Image Capture software is not available for your Brother machine. Please use other TWAIN compliant software such as Presto! PageManager® 9 or DSmobile Capture. DSmobile Capture isinstalled automatically when Scanner Driver is installed.
The ICA scanner driver is also not available for OS X 10.8 or earlier. However, the Image Capture software may work on OS X 10.8 or earlier if the TWAIN scanner driver is used instead of the ICA scanner driver.
