The ".pes" file is not associated with Layout & Editing of PE-DESIGN 11. To resolve the file type association problem, follow the steps below.

Windows 10

1. Right-click on the embroidery design file (".pes" format).
   Choose [Open with] from the context-menu, and then, choose [Choose another app].
2. The How do you want to open this file? dialog will appear. Click [More apps] in the dialog box.

• If the application name [Layout & Editing] is in the list of apps, select it and check the option [Always use this app to open .pes files], and then, click [OK] in the dialog box.
  
   
• If the application name [Layout & Editing] not in the list, choose [Look for another app on this PC] at the bottom of the list, and then, navigate the Layout & Editing executable (Embedit.exe) for PE-DESIGN 11 in the file explorer.
  Select Embedit.exe and click [Open].
  For example, the default installation path for Layout & Editing is as follows.

  C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother\PE-DESIGN 11\Embedit.exe

  

Windows 8.1

1. Right-click on the embroidery design file (".pes" format). Choose [Open with] from the context-menu, and then, choose [Choose default program...].
    
2. The How do you want to open this file? dialog will appear. Click [More options] in the dialog box.

• If the application name [Layout & Editing] is in the list of apps, select it and check the option [Use this app for all .pes files], and then, click [OK] in the dialog box.
  
   
• If the application name [Layout & Editing] not in the list, choose [Look for another app on this PC] at the bottom of the list, and then, navigate the Layout & Editing executable (Embedit.exe) for PE-DESIGN 11 in the file explorer.
  Select Embedit.exe and click [Open]. For example, the default installation path for Layout & Editing is as follows.

  C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother\PE-DESIGN 11\Embedit.exe

  

Windows 7

1. Right-click on the embroidery design file (".pes" format). Choose [Open with] from the context-menu, and then, choose [Choose default program...].
    
2. The Open with dialog will appear.

• If the application name [Layout & Editing] is in the list of programs, select it and check the option [Always use the selected program to open this kind of file], and then, click [OK] in the dialog box.
  
   
• If the application name [Layout & Editing] not in the list, click [Browse...] button in the list, and then, navigate the Layout & Editing executable (Embedit.exe) for PE-DESIGN 11 in the file explorer.
  Select Embedit.exe and click [Open].
  For example, the default installation path for Layout & Editing is as follows.

  C:\Program Files (x86)\Brother\PE-DESIGN 11\Embedit.exe
