If you are having difficulty sending a fax overseas due to possible interference on the telephone line, setting your Brother machine's Compatibility to Basic may help.
To change your Brother machine's Compatibility setting, follow these steps:
Press the MENU key.
Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Initial Setup.
Press the OK key.
Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Compatibility.
Press the OK key.
Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Basic (for VoIP).
Press the OK key.
Press the STOP/EXIT key.
If you are still having problems sending overseas after setting Compatibility to Basic (for VoIP), try turning on your Brother machine's Overseas Mode.
Overseas Mode is a temporary setting, and will only be active for the next fax you send.
To turn Overseas Mode on, follow these steps:
Press the FAX key to illuminate it.
Place the document you want to fax face down on the flat scanner glass.
Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Overseas Mode.
Press the OK key.
Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose On.
Press the OK key.
Enter the fax number you want to send to.
Press the Black (Mono) Start or the Color (Colour) Start key on the Brother machine.
If you press the Black (Mono) Start key on your Brother machine, the machine will scan the first page. Go to STEP 9.
If you press the Color (Colour) Start key on your Brother machine, the machine will scan and fax the document.
Do one of the following:
To send a single-page fax, press the Black (Mono) Start key on your Brother machine again or press 2 to choose No.
Your Brother machine will scan and fax the document.
To send more than one page, press 1 to choose Yes. Go to STEP 10.
Place the next page you want to fax face down on the flat scanner glass.
Press the OK key.
Your Brother machine will scan the next page.
Repeat STEPS 10 and 11 for each additional page you want to fax.
Press the Black (Mono) Start key on the Brother machine to send the fax.
