I'm having problems sending faxes to one particular number.

  • If you are having problems sending faxes to all recipients, click here.

  • (Only available for some countries.)
    If you are only having problems sending faxes outside your area code, make sure you have long-distance service on your telephone line. If you do not have long-distance service, you will not be able to send long-distance faxes.

  • If you are having a problem sending a fax to one particular number, follow these instructions:

    SECTION A:

    Verify if the number is a working fax number.

    1. Press Hook or pick up the handset of an external telephone.

    2. Dial the number.

    3. Do one of the following:

      • If the number does not answer with fax tones, it is not a working fax number.

      • If the number answers with fax tones, follow these steps:

        1. Press Hook again or hang up the extension phone.

        2. Go to SECTION B.


    SECTION B:

    Adjust the Brother machine's Compatibility setting. This adjusts the Brother machine's sensitivity to interference on the phone line by lowering its transmission speed:

    *If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

    1. Press Menu.

    2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Initial Setup.

    3. Press OK.

    4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Compatibility.

    5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Normal.

    6. Press OK.

    7. Press Stop/Exit.

    8. Try to send a fax to the "problem" fax number.

      • If the fax is successful, the problem is solved.

      • If the fax is not received, the problem is not the Brother machine.

        There are several reasons you may be having a problem sending to that specific number. There may be a problem with the recipient's phone line or fax machine.

        We recommend you contact the receiving party for additional information.


    <For touchscreen models>

    1. Press Menu on the screen.

    2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Initial Setup.

    3. Press Initial Setup.

    4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Compatibility.

    5. Press Compatibility.

    6. Press Normal.

    7. Press Stop/Exit.

    8. Try to send a fax to the "problem" fax number.

      • If the fax is successful, the problem is solved.

      • If the fax is not received, the problem is not the Brother machine.
