Why can't I import some embroidery files correctly?

I can't create a clear embroidery data from a photo or an image/character that have a shading of color, using the Auto Punch function.

I'm trying to create an embroidery pattern from an image scanned from a magazine etc. using the Auto Punch function. What should I do to erase a background in the image?
