FAQs & Troubleshooting

Set the Brother machine to prevent public access to certain features.

TX Lock lets you prevent unauthorized access to your Brother machine.

 

When TX Lock is on, the following operations are available:

 

  • Receiving faxes
     
  • Fax Forwarding (if Fax Forwarding was already on)
     
  • Paging (if Paging was already on) *if applicable
     
  • Remote Retrieval (if Fax Storage was already on)
     
  • PC Fax Receiving (if PC Fax Receive was already on) *if applicable
     
  • Receiving telephone calls (If your Brother machine has a handset)

 

When TX Lock is on, the following operations are not available:

 

  • Sending faxes
     
  • Copying
     
  • PC printing *if applicable
     
  • PC scanning *if applicable
     
  • Making telephone calls (If your Brother machine has a handset)

 

  • When TX Lock is on, you will not to be able to schedule new Delayed Faxes or Polling jobs; however, any pre-scheduled Delayed Faxes will still be sent so you won't lose them.


SETTING UP THE PASSWORD
Before you can turn TX Lock on, you must set a password.

To program the TX Lock password, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press MENU/SET and choose General Setup => Security => TX Lock.
     
  2. Enter a four-digit, numerical password.
     
  3. Press the MENU/SET key.

     

    • If you are entering the password for the first time, the Brother machine's LCD will read Verify.
  4. Re-enter the password.
     
  5. Press the MENU/SET key.
     
  6. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

 

TURNING TX LOCK ON
Once you have programmed a password, follow these steps to turn TX Lock on:

 

  1. Press MENU/SETand choose General Setup => Security => TX Lock.
     
  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Set TX Lock.
     
  3. Press the MENU/SET key.
     
  4. Enter the four-digit password.
     
  5. Press the MENU/SET key. Your Brother machine will go offline. Its LCD will read TX Lock Mode.

    If there is a power failure, the data in your Brother machine's memory will remain for up to 4 days.

 

TURNING TX LOCK OFF
To turn TX Lock off, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press the MENU/SET key.
     
  2. Enter the four-digit password.
     
  3. Press the MENU/SET key. TX Lock will automatically be turned off. The Brother machine's LCD will display the date and time.

    If you enter the wrong password, the Brother machine's LCD will display Wrong Password and the machine will stay offline. The Brother machine will remain in TX Lock Mode until you enter the correct password.

 

CHANGING THE PASSWORD
To change your TX Lock password, follow these steps:

 

  1. Press MENU/SET and choose General Setup => Security => TX Lock.
     
  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Set Password.
     
  3. Press the MENU/SET key.
     
  4. Enter the current four-digit password.
     
  5. Press the MENU/SET key.
     
  6. Enter a new four-digit password.
     
  7. Press the MENU/SET key.
     
  8. Do one of the following:

     

    • If the Brother machine's LCD does not read Verify, go to STEP 9.
       
    • If the Brother machine's LCD reads Verify, follow these steps:

       

      1. Re-enter the new password.
         
      2. Press the MENU/SET key.
         
      3. Go to STEP 9.
  9. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
