The Replace Ink – B&W (1-sided) Print Only message means that one of your Brother machine's color(colour) ink cartridges has reached the end of its life. 
 

You can use your Brother machine in black & white mode for approximately four weeks, depending on the number of pages you print.
 

While the Replace Ink – B&W (1-sided) Print Only message appears on your Brother machine's display (hereinafter called LCD), machine operations work in the following ways:
 

• Printing:
  If you click Grayscale in the printer driver's Advanced tab, you can use your Brother machine as a black & white printer.  2-sided printing is not available.
   
• Copying:
  If the paper type is set to Plain Paper, you can make copies in black & white.  You cannot make duplex copies when this message appears.  2-sided copying is not available.
   
• Faxing:
  If the Paper Type is set to Plain Paper or Inkjet Paper, the machine will receive and print faxes in black & white.
  If someone sends you a color(colour) fax, your Brother machine will request that it be sent in black & white.  If the sending machine is able to convert the fax, it will be stored in your Brother machine's memory as a black & white fax.

To clear the Replace Ink message, you must replace the ink cartridge(s) indicated on your Brother machine's LCD.
