The message "DR Mode in Use" is displayed on my Brother machine.

The message "DR Mode in Use" indicates that your Brother machine's Distinctive Ring feature is currently enabled. When Distinctive Ring is on, the machine will automatically stay in Manual Mode. You cannot change your Brother machine's Receive Mode until you turn Distinctive Ring off.


To turn Distinctive Ring off, follow these steps:


*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press the MENU key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose FAX.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Miscellaneous.

  5. Press the OK key.

  6. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Distinctive.

  7. Press the OK key.

  8. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Off.

  9. Press the OK key.

  10. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

If your turn Distinctive Ring off, your Brother machine will still be in Manual Mode. You will need to choose the correct Receive Mode for your line setup.

<For Touchscreen models>

  1. Press MENU.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Fax.

  3. Press Fax.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Miscellaneous.

  5. Press Miscellaneous.

  6. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Distinctive. (This step might be skipped in some models.)

  7. Press Distinctive.

  8. Press Off.

  9. Press Stop/Exit.

If your turn Distinctive Ring off, your Brother machine will still be in Manual Mode. You will need to choose the correct Receive Mode for your line setup.
