How can I clear the "Out of Memory" message from my Brother machine's display?

The Out of Memory message will appear on the Brother machine's display when the machine's storage capacity has been exceeded. The amount of memory used depends on the amount or type of data on the documents being faxed, copied, or printed from a computer.

Memory is based on industry standard 5% coverage of an 8½ in. x 11 in. test document.  If the document being scanned is more than 5% coverage, it will use more memory.  Documents with graphics will also use more memory.

The Out of Memory message may also appear on the display when scanning faxes into memory, making multiple copies, or printing from a computer.

  • If the Out of Memory message appears when you are sending a fax, go to Step 1.

  • If the Out of Memory message appears when you try to make copies, go to Step 2.

  • If the Out of Memory message appears when you are printing from your computer, go to Step 3.

  • If the Out of Memory message appears when you are scanning, go to Step 4.

  1. If the Out of Memory message appears when you are sending a fax, follow these steps:

    1. Do one of the following:

      • If the message appears while the machine is scanning the first page of a fax, press the STOP/EXIT key to cancel the fax.

      • If the message appears while the machine is scanning a subsequent page, you can either press the START key to send the pages that have been scanned so far or press the STOP/EXIT key to cancel the fax.

    2. If Fax Storage is on, print the currently stored faxes or turn it off.

When Fax Storage is on, a copy of each received fax is stored in the machine's memory. This reduces the memory available for other functions. Fax Storage must be enabled if you want to use the Fax Forwarding, Fax Paging, or Remote Retrieval features.

      • <Print the stored faxes>
If you want to continue using Fax Storage or are using the Fax Forwarding, Fax Paging, or Remote Retrieval features, follow these steps to print the stored faxes and clear the machine's memory:

        1. Press Menu, Fax, Remote Fax Opt, Print Fax.
        2. Press the START key on the machine.
        3. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

      • <Turn Fax Storage off>
If you do not want to use the Fax Storage, Fax Forwarding, Fax Paging, or Remote Retrieval features, follow these steps to turn Fax Storage off:

        1. Press Menu, Fax, Remote Fax Opt, Fwd/Page/Store.
        2. Press the up or down navigation key to select Off.
        3. Press the Set key.

If there are currently faxes in memory, the machine will prompt you with the following message:

Erase all fax? 1. Yes 2. No.

          • If you do not want to print the stored faxes, press 1 (Yes).

          • If you want to print the saved faxes, follow these steps:

                 aa . Press 2 (No).

bb . Press the STOP/EXIT key.

cc . Print the stored faxes.

        4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

  2. If the Out of Memory message appears when you are making copies, do one of the following:

    • Press the STOP/EXIT key to cancel the copies.

    • Press the START key on the machine to copy the pages that have been scanned so far.

You must to clear some jobs from the memory before you can continue.

  3. If the Out of Memory message occurs when you are printing from a computer, reduce the print resolution in the printer driver.

  4. If the Out of Memory message occurs when you are scanning, your documents may be scanned into memory as black or gray images, which will use more memory.
Follow these steps to test the scanner:

    1. Press the Copy key to illuminate it.
    2. Place a blank sheet of white paper into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.
    3. Press the START key on the machine.
