How can I prevent public users from changing the settings of my Brother machine?

Setting Lock is a feature that lets you set a password to stop other people from accidentally changing your machine settings. While Setting Lock is on, the following features cannot be changed without a password:

  • Date and Time
  • Station I.D.
  • Quick-Dial settings (Speed Dial, One-Touch, and Group numbers)
  • Mode Timer
  • Paper Type
  • Paper Size
  • Volume
  • Auto Daylight or Clock Change
  • Ecology (Toner Save and Sleep Time)
  • LCD Contrast
  • Setting Lock
  • Dial Restriction (For MFC-7340, MFC-7345N and MFC-7440N)
  • TX Lock or Memory Security

This feature is useful if:

You make extensive use of broadcast and automatic dialing capabilities. Locking the One-Touch, Speed Dial, and Group data ensures that fax broadcasts reach their proper destinations.


Use the following steps to set up and use the Setting Lock feature:

SETTING UP THE PASSWORD

  1. Press MENU or MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 2 (Setting Lock).

  2. Enter a four-digit number for the password.

  3. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  4. Re-enter the password when the LCD reads "Verify."

  5. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  6. Press the STOP/EXIT key.


TURNING SETTING LOCK ON

  1. Press MENU or MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 2 (Setting Lock).

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select On.

  3. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  4. Enter your four-digit password.

  5. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

If you enter the wrong password, the LCD will show "Wrong Password." The Brother machine will stay in Setting Lock mode until you enter the registered password.
  1. Press the STOP/EXIT key.


TURNING SETTING LOCK OFF

  1. Press MENU or MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 2 (Setting Lock).

  2. Enter your four-digit password.

  3. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  4. Press the OK or MENU/SET key again.
If you enter the wrong password, the LCD will show "Wrong Password." The machine will stay in Setting Lock mode until you enter the registered password.


  1. Press the STOP/EXIT key.


CHANGING THE PASSWORD

  1. Press MENU or MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 8 (Security), 2 (Setting Lock).

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to select Set Password.

  3. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  4. Enter your four-digit password.

  5. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

If you enter the wrong password, the LCD will show "Wrong Password." The machine will stay in Setting Lock mode until you enter the registered password.


  1. Enter a new four-digit password.

  2. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  3. Re-enter the new password when the LCD reads "Verify."

  4. Press the OK or MENU/SET key.

  5. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
