How can I change the IP address?

There are several different methods of assigning or changing an IP address on your Brother HL-4000CN printer:

  • Use the Printer front panel
  • Use the BRAdmin Professional Software

Front Panel Method

Your printer is configured to receive an IP address, Subnet mask and gateway address from a DHCP server. If you do not use a DHCP sercver, follow the steps below:

 

When you set IP address for the first time :

  1. Press the 'Menu' button. The menu screen appears.
  2. Press the Down button 4 times.
  3. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  4. Press the Down button once.
  5. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  6. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once. The value currentry set has a '*' displayed next to it.
  7. Press the Down button once.
  8. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once. 3 seconds later, the 'Setup IP Address' screen appears. When the value is set, a '*' appears next to it.
  9. Press the 'Job Cancel/Back' button once. The lower line of the screen returns to the 'Setup IP Address'.
  10. Follow the 'When you change the IP address' section.

 

When you change the IP address :

  1. Press the 'Menu' button. The menu screen appears.
  2. Press the Down button 4 times.
  3. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  4. Press the Down button once.
  5. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  6. Press the Down button once.
  7. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  8. Using the Right or Left button, press the buttons until the desired value (for example, 192) appears. You can hold down the buttons to change the value in increments of 10.
  9. Press the Right button once and move the cursor to the next value.
  10. Repeat steps 8 & 9 to finish setting the IP address.
  11. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once. 3 seconds later, the 'IP Address' screen appears.
  12. Press the 'Job Cancel/Back' button once. The lower line of the screen returns to 'IP address'.
  13. If you want to change (or set) your Subnet Mak, follow the 'To change the Subnet mask do the following:' section. If you don't want to change the Subnet mask, reboot the printer.

 

To change the Subnet mask do the following:

  1. Press the 'Menu' button. The menu screen appears.
  2. Press the Down button 4 times.
  3. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  4. Press the Down button once.
  5. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  6. Press the Down button once.
  7. Press the 'Form Feed/Set' button once.
  8. Set the Subnet mask in the same way as the IP address. To set values with the Right or Left buttons, you can hold down the button to change the value sequentially.
  9. Press the 'Job Cancel/Back' button once. The lower line of the screen returns to 'Subnet Mask'.
  10. Reboot the printer.

 

BRAdmin Professional Software

The BRAdmin Professional software can be used to change the IP address of a Brother printer. It can set the IP address, or it can change the address if it has already been set.

 

IP address has been set, but you want to change it :
To change the IP address information, double click the printer you wish to change and enter the print server password (refer to the print server userguide for information on passwords).

Select the 'TCP/IP' tab and enter the new IP address information.
