Unable to print using Apple AirPrint.

Follow the steps below to solve the problem:

  1. This feature is only available if your iOS supported device including iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is running iOS 4.2 or later.  This can typically be determined by accessing the device's settings menu.  Refer to the Apple website for more information about compatible operating systems http://www.apple.com/support/.

  2. Verify your Brother machine's firmware version.
A firmware update was released to correct an AirPrint printing issue. To verify your machine's firmware version, click here to see how to verify the firmware version.
If your machine's firmware version is earlier than 1.16, update the machine's firmware. Click here to download the Firmware Update Tool.

  3. Confirm your Brother machine is connected to the network.
In order to use AirPrint, your iOS device must connect using Wi-Fi to the SAME network that your Brother machine is connected to or connected directly to the Brother machine using an Ad-hoc connection.  You cannot use AirPrint if your iOS device is connected via 3G, 4G, etc.
The Brother machine may be connected using Wired Ethernet, Wireless to a router/access point, or Wireless directly to the iOS device (Ad-hoc).

Refer to the following steps to confirm the connection to the same Wi-Fi network

    • Confirm the Brother machine network>
      1. Print the Network Configuration Report (List). Please click here to see the details of how to print the Network Configuration Report (List).
      2. Locate the network name "<NAME(SSID)>" (SSID: Service Set ID) on the Network Configuration Report (List). Your Brother machine is connected to this SSID name.
    • Confirm the iOS device network.
      1. Tap the settings icon image and confirm the Wi-Fi setting is ON.
      2. Tap Wi-Fi and confirm that the SSID is the same name your Brother machine is connected to. If not, choose the SSID the Brother machine is connected to.
  4. Try printing again.
The procedure used to print may vary by application.  Safari is used in the example below.  For detailed assistance with any other application contact your application's vendor.
    • Paper size and paper type options are specified depending on the iOS application.
    • If the machine supports the Secure Function Lock feature, printing via AirPrint is possible even if the PC print for each user is restricted.  If you want to restrict printing via AirPrint, disable AirPrint using Web Based Management or set the Secure Function Lock feature to Public Mode and then restrict PC print for public.
    1. Make sure your machine is turned on.
    2. Use Safari to open the page that you want to print.
    3. Tap  image.
    4. Tap Print .
    5. Make sure your Brother machine is selected.
If a different machine is selected or if no printer is selected, tap the displayed printer name or Select Printer.  A list of available machines will be displayed.  Tap your machine.
    6. Tap Print.
