How do I adjust the handset volume on my Brother machine?

Please follow steps below:

NOTE: Some Brother machines do not have or shown below. In that case, please use or instead.

Adjusting Handset Volume:
You can adjust your Brother machine's handset volume by following these steps:
  1. Press Menu or Menu/Set.
  2. Select General Setup => Volume => Handset.
  3. Select the volume level. Press OK, Set or Menu/Set.
  4. Press Stop or Stop/Exit.

You can also adjust the handset volume any time you are talking on the telephone, simply by pressing or . When you change the handset volume, the new setting remains active until you change it again.

Adjusting Handset Volume (For Volume Amplify):
  1. Choosing the Handset Volume (For Volume Amplify):

    Before you begin to use the Brother machine, you must decide if you need to set the handset to Amplify:On for a user who is hearing-impaired. The AMPLIFY volume level complies with FCC standards.

    Vol Amplify:Off This default setting is used if NONE of the users are hearing-impaired. During a conversation, users can press or to adjust the volume to Low or High. When the handset is replaced, the volume setting will remain until you change it again.
    Vol Amplify:On
    -Temporary
    This setting is used if SOME of the users are hearing-impaired. During a conversation, users can press or to adjust the volume to Low, High, or Volume Amplify. When the handset is replaced, the volume will return to the default setting of Low.
    Vol Amplify:On
    -Permanent
    This setting is used if ALL of the users are hearing-impaired. During a conversation, users can press or to adjust the volume to Low, High, or Volume Amplify. When the handset is replaced, the volume will return to the default setting of Volume Amplify.

    When you press or to adjust the volume, the LCD shows the setting you are choosing. Each key press changes the volume to the next setting.

    Is it important that you do NOT choose Permanent unless ALL users are hearing-impaired. Otherwise, the default setting of Volume Amplify may damage the hearing of some users.


  2. Changing Volume Amplify:

    1. Press Menu or Menu/Set.
    2. Select General Setup => Volume => Volume Amplify.
    3. Do one of the following:
      • If none of this machine's users are hearing-impaired, select Off and then press OK, Set or Menu/Set. Go to STEP e.
      • If some or all of this machine's users are hearing-impaired, select On and then press OK, Set or Menu/Set. Go to STEP d.
    4. Do one of the following:
      • If all the users are hearing-impaired, select Permanent, and then press OK, Set or Menu/Set.
      • If only some of the users are hearing-impaired, select Temporary and then press OK, Set or Menu/Set.
    5. Press Stop or Stop/Exit.
