Can I remotely access my Brother machine to listen to my voice messages and forward my faxes to another machine?

You can call your Brother machine from any touch-tone telephone or fax machine, then use the Remote Access Code and remote commands to retrieve your faxes.

Setting a Remote Access Code

Before you can use your Brother machine's Remote Retrieval feature, you must program your own Remote Access Code. The factory default code is the inactive code ---*.

To set up a Remote Access Code, follow these steps:

  1. Press MENU/SET and choose Fax => Remote Fax Opt => Remote Access.

  2. Use the dial pad to enter a three-digit code.

    • The code can be any number from 000 to 999.

    • You cannot change the preset *.

    • Do not use the Fax Receive Code (*51, *91 for New Zealand) or your Telephone Answer Code (#51, #91 for New Zealand).
  3. Press the MENU/SET key.

  4. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
  • You can change your Remote Access Code at any time by entering a new one.

  2. When your Brother machine answers, enter your Remote Access Code.

Your Remote Access Code is the three digit code you chosen followed by *.

  3. Your Brother machine will signal if it has received messages:

    • 1 long beep: fax messages

    • 2 long beeps: voice messages

    • 3 long beeps: fax and voice messages

    • No beeps: no messages
  4. When your Brother machine gives two short beeps, enter a command:

    • The machine will hang up if you wait longer than 30 seconds to enter a command.

    • The machine will beep three times if you enter an invalid command.
  5. Press 9, 0 to stop Remote Access when you are finished.

  6. Hang up the telephone.
If your Brother machine is in Manual Mode and you want to use the Remote Retrieval features, wait for about 2 minutes after it starts ringing, then enter the Remote Access Code within 30 seconds.
