Scan and save a document in PDF format for Windows (Scan to File)

You can scan and save a document in PDF format to a preferred folder using ControlCenter4. Click the link below for the ControlCenter4 user interface you are using to see more details.
 

If you want to scan multiple pages into one file, please refer to FAQ, "Scan multiple pages into one file instead of each scan being saved as a separate file".

NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from a representative product and operating system and may differ from your Brother machine and operating system.
 

Home Mode

  1. Load your document.
  2. Open the ControlCenter.
    • Brother Utilities supported models
      1. Open Brother Utilities.
        • Windows 7 / 10 / 11
          Click Start or Start(Start) > (All Programs or All apps >) Brother > Brother Utilities.
        • Windows 8
          On the Start screen, click Start.
          If  is not  on the Start screen, right-click somewhere on an empty spot, and then click, All Apps from the bar.
          Click Brother Utilities.
      2. Select Scan.
      3. Click ControlCenter4.
    • Brother Utilities unsupported models
      Click Start(Start) > All Programs > Brother > [model name] > ControlCenter4.
  3. Click the Scan tab.

  4. Select the Document Type.
  5. Change the size of your document, if needed.
  6. Click Scan
    The machine starts scanning, and the scanned image appears in the image viewer.
  7. Click the left or right arrow buttons to preview each scanned page.
  8. Click Save.
    The Save dialog box appears.
  9. Click the File Type drop-down list, ant then select PDF (*.pdf).
    To save the document as a password-protected PDF, select Secure PDF (*.pdf) from the File Type drop-down list, click password, and then type the password.
  10. In the File Name field, type a prefix for your file name, if needed.
  11. In the Scan Location field, select the Folder radio button, and then browse to the folder where you want to save your scanned documents.
  12. Click OK.
    The scanned document is saved in the destination folder as a PDF.

 

 

Advanced Mode

  1. Load your document.
  2. Open the ControlCenter.
    • Brother Utilities supported models
      1. Open Brother Utilities.
        • Windows 7 / 10 / 11
          Click Start or Start(Start) > (All Programs or All apps >) Brother > Brother Utilities.
        • Windows 8
          On the Start screen, click Start.
          If  is not  on the Start screen, right-click somewhere on an empty spot, and then click, All Apps from the bar.
          Click Brother Utilities.
      2. Select Scan.
      3. Click ControlCenter4.
    • Brother Utilities unsupported models
      Click Start(Start) > All Programs > Brother > [model name] > ControlCenter4.
  3. Click the Scan tab.

  4. Click File button.
     The scan settings dialog box appears.

  5. Click the File Type drop-down list, and then select PDF (*.pdf).
    To save the document as a password-protected PDF, select Secure PDF (*.pdf) from the File Type drop-down list, click Password, and then type the password.
  6. In the Scan Location field, select the Folder radio button, and then browse to the folder where you would like to save your scanned documents.
  7. Change the scan settings, such as file format, file name, resolution or color, in needed.
    To preview and configure the scanned image, select the PreScan check box.
  8. Click Scan.
    The machine starts scanning. The file is saved in the folder you selected.
