"Unexpected file format." appears on my PC when I try to import an image file.

  1. This error message is displayed if you try to import the type of image file that PE-DESIGN cannot open. Please check the file type of your image file.

The following type of image file formats can be opened on PE-DESIGN:
    • Windows bitmap (BMP)
    • Exchangeable Image File (EXIF)
    • Tagged Image File Format (TIF or TIFF)
    • ZSoft Corporation (PCX)
    • Windows Meta File (WMF)
    • Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
    • Encapsulated PostScript (EPS)
    • Kodak Picture CD (PCD)
    • Flashpix (FPX)
    • Joint Photographic Experts Group / JPEG2000 (JPG, JPG2 or JP2)

    • Tiff files with LZW compression cannot be opened on PE-DESIGN.
    • If you use an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) type of image file on your PE-DESIGN Ver.6.x, you need to apply the EPS Solution update program for PE-DESIGN Ver.6. You can download this update program from the brother software download page on Web site.
Please click the Downloads tab to get the EPS Solution update program.
    • If an EPS file doesn't contain a "Preview" image, it can not be displayed correctly. When you create a file in EPS format, be sure to save it with preview image.

  2. This error message is displayed if you use the wrong menu command to import an image file.
When you would like to import an image file on the design page, you must select [Image] menu, then [Input], and then [from File].

An [Open an image file] dialog box appears.

Select an image file after specifying the drive and folder where the file you desire is saved and then click the [Open] button.
