Easy Receive or Fax Detect is a feature that allows your Brother machine to receive a fax even if you answer it by lifting an external or extension telephone's handset.

• If Easy Receive or Fax Detect is On, the machine will automatically receive a fax, even if you answer it by lifting the handset of an external telephone that is connected to the Brother machine's EXT jack (socket) or an extension telephone that is on the same line as the Brother machine.
  
  After lifting the telephone's handset, wait until the Brother machine's LCD reads Receiving or you hear a clicking sound over the phone, and then hang up. The machine will do the rest.
  
   
• If Easy Receive or Fax Detect is Off and you answer an incoming fax by lifting the handset of an external telephone that is connected to the Brother machine's EXT jack (socket), press Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start, and then press 2 on the Brother machine's dial pad to receive the fax.
  
   
• If Easy Receive or Fax Detect is Off and you answer an incoming fax by lifting the handset of an extension telephone that shares the line with the Brother machine, press * 5 1 (* 9 1 for New Zealand) on the telephone to receive the fax.

To change your Brother machine's Easy Receive or Fax Detect setting, follow these steps:

1. Press Menu.
   
    
2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Fax.
   
    
3. Press OK.
   
    
4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Setup Receive.
   
    
5. Press OK.
   
    
6. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Easy Receive or Fax Detect.
   
    
7. Press OK.
   
    
8. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose On or Off.
   
    
9. Press OK.
   
    
10. Press Stop/Exit.
