Print using only the black ink cartridge when the colour cartridges have run out

When one or more of the colour ink cartridges have reached the end of their lives, the B&W Print Only message appears on the machine's LCD and you can print using only the black ink cartridge if you select "Greyscale" in the printer driver.

  • You can use only the black ink cartridge for approximately four weeks depending on the number of pages you print.
  • You may not be able to continue using only the black cartridge and will need to replace the ink cartridges if you:
    - Unplug the machine or remove any of the ink cartridges.
    - Select the Slow Drying Paper option using the machine's control panel or in the printer driver.
  • Some applications may still use colour ink to print greyscale documents or images.

1. Check if the machine's screen shows the B&W Print Only message.

  • If it does, go to step 2.
  • If the LCD displays other messages (for example, Cannot Detect), see "FAQs & Troubleshooting" for more information.

2. Select the "Greyscale" setting in the printer driver:

Windows

  1. Open Printing Preferences. (How to open Printing Preferences)
