When scanning a document to be copied or faxed, the LCD shows "OUT OF MEMORY".

This message means the memory capacity of the unit has been exceeded. The amount of memory used depends on the amount or type of data on the documents being faxed or copied.

If you get an "Out of Memory" message while scanning the first page, press Stop/Exit to cancel scanning.

If you get an "Out of Memory" message while scanning a subsequent page, you can either press Mono Start or Colour Start to transmit or copy the pages that were scanned so far, or press Stop/Exit to cancel the operation.

 


"Out of Memory" message with Memory Receive On? When Memory Receive is set to On copies of all received faxes are stored in the memory, thus using up a portion of the memory available for other functions. The Memory Receive feature is utilized for Fax Forwarding, Fax Storage and PC Fax Receive. If you do not need these features, verify that Memory Receive is set to Off by doing the following:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the up or down arrow key to select Fax and press OK.
  3. Press the up or down arrow key to select Setup Receive and press OK.
  4. Press the up or down arrow key to select Memory Receiveand press OK.
  5. Press the up or down arrow key to select Off and press OK.
  6. If you have faxes stored in the memory, you will receive the following message:

    • Erase All Fax (Doc) ?  
                  --OR--
    • Print All Fax?   

    If you press 1(Yes), faxes in the memory will be erased or printed before the setting changes.
    If a backup copy has already been printed it will not be printed again.

    If you press 2(No), faxes in the memory will not be erased or printed and the setting will be unchanged.

<For Touchscreen models>

  1. Press MENU.
  2. Press the up or down arrow key to display Fax and press Fax.
  3. Press the up or down arrow key to display Setup Receive and press Setup Receive.
  4. Press the up or down arrow key to display Memory Receive and press Memory Receive.
  5. Press Off.
  6. If you have faxes stored in the memory, you will receive the following message:

    • Erase All Fax (Doc) ?  
                  --OR--
    • Print All Fax?   

    If you press Yes, faxes in the memory will be erased or printed before the setting changes.
    If a backup copy has already been printed it will not be printed again.

    If you press No, faxes in the memory will not be erased or printed and the setting will be unchanged.

 

If you do need the features that require Memory Receive to be On, the stored faxes will need to be erased or printed to remove them from the memory and to allow additional memory to be available. Follow these steps to print the stored faxes:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the up or down arrow key to select Fax and press OK.
  3. Press the up or down arrow key to select Print Fax or Print Document and press OK.
  4. Press Mono Start.
  5. After printing is finished, press Stop/Exit.

<For Touchscreen models>

  1. Press MENU.
  2. Press the up or down arrow key to display Fax and press Fax.
  3. Press the up or down arrow key to display Print Fax or Print Document and press Print Fax or Print Document.
  4. Press Mono Start.
  5. After printing is finished, press Stop/Exit.
