How do I improve my Brother machine's copy quality?
Listed below are instructions for various adjustments that can be made to improve your Brother machine's copy quality:
- If you would like to adjust the general copy quality, please refer to SECTION 1.
- If you would like the copies you make to be lighter or darker, please refer to SECTION 2.
- If you would like to make your copies sharper and more vivid, please refer to SECTION 3.
- If you would like to intensify the colours in your copies, please refer to SECTION 4.
SECTION 1: COPY QUALITY SETTING
Your Brother machine offers a range of Copy Quality settings. Each setting is appropriate for copying a different type of document:
- Normal: Use this setting for ordinary printouts. Normal mode is the default setting, and provides good copy quality and good copy speed.
- Fast: Use this setting when printing large documents, many copies of a document, or documents to be proof read. Fast mode provides fast copy speed and low ink consumption.
- Best: Use this setting is recommended for copying detailed images, such as photographs. Best mode provides the highest resolution and the slowest speed.
Temporarily changing the Copy Quality setting
To change the Copy Quality setting for your next copy job, follow these steps:
- Press the COPY key to illuminate it.
- Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.
After you put your document(s) in the ADF, the Brother machine's LCD should display the fax-sending options. - Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).
- Do one of the following:
- If your Brother machine has the QUALITY key on its control panel, press the QUALITY key.
- If not:
- Press the COPY OPTIONS key.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Quality.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose a setting.
You can choose Normal, Fast, or Best. - Press the OK key.
- Press the Mono Start or the Colour Start to start copying.
Programming a new default Copy Quality setting
To change your Brother machine's default Copy Quality setting, follow these steps:
- Press MENU and choose Copy => Quality.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose a setting.
You can choose Normal, Fast, or Best. - Press the OK key.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.
SECTION 2: COPY BRIGHTNESS
Temporarily changing the Copy Brightness setting
You can make your copied images darker or lighter by adjusting your Brother machine's Copy Brightness setting.
To change the Copy Brightness setting for your next copy job, follow these steps:
- Press the COPY key to illuminate it.
- Place the document you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face down, top edge first.
After you put your document(s) in the ADF, the Brother machine's LCD should display the fax-sending options. - Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).
- Press the OPTIONS or COPY OPTIONS key.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Brightness.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to adjust the brightness.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the Mono Start or the Colour Start to start copying.
Programming a new default Copy Brightness setting
To change your Brother machine's default Copy Brightness setting, follow these steps:
- Press MENU and choose Copy => Brightness.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to adjust the brightness.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.
SECTION 3: COPY CONTRAST
You can adjust the Copy Contrast setting to make your copied images sharper and more vivid.
To change your Brother machine's default Copy Brightness setting, follow these steps:
- Press MENU and choose Copy => Contrast.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to adjust the contrast.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.
SECTION 4: COLOUR SATURATION
You can adjust the Colour Saturation setting to intensify the colors in your copied images.
To change your Brother machine's default Colour Saturation setting, follow these steps:
- Press MENU and choose Copy => Colour Adjust.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose 1. Red, 2. Green, or 3. Blue.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to change the colour saturation.
- Press the OK key.
- Do one of the following:
- To choose another colour, go back to STEP 2.
- If you are finished changing the Colour Saturation, press the STOP/EXIT key.
