Document Jam

The document was not inserted or fed properly, or the document scanned from the ADF was too long.
Take out the jammed paper depending on where it is jammed in ADF unit.


NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from a representative product, and may differ from your Brother machine.


Case1: If the document is jammed in the top of the ADF unit

  1. Take out any paper from the ADF that is not jammed.

  2. Open the ADF cover.

  3. Remove the jammed document by pulling it upward.

  4. Close the ADF cover.

  5. Press Stop/Exit.

    To avoid document jams close the ADF cover correctly by pushing it gently in the middle.

Case2: If the document is jammed inside the ADF unit


  1. Take out any paper from the ADF that is not jammed.

  2. Lift the document cover.

  3. Pull the jammed document out to the left.

  4. Close the document cover.

  5. Press Stop/Exit.

Case3: If the small document is jammed in the ADF


  1. Lift the document cover.

  2. Insert a piece of stiff paper, such as cardstock, into the ADF to push any small paper scraps through.

  3. Close the document cover.

  4. Press Stop/Exit.
