How do I improve the copy or fax quality?

Please clean the Document Scanner, the Laser Scanner window and the Corona Wire inside the drum unit. Follow the steps listed below.

To clean the scanner glass:

  1. Turn off the machine's power switch.
  1. Lift the document cover (1).
Clean the white plastic surface (2) and scanner glass (3) underneath the document cover with isopropyl alcohol on a soft lint-free cloth.
  1. In the ADF unit, clean the white plastic bar (1) and the scanner glass strip (2) under it with isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free cloth.

DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol to remove dirt from the control panel. It may crack the panel.

To clean the laser scanner window:

  • DO NOT use isopropyl alcohol to clean the laser scanner window.
  • DO NOT touch the laser scanner window with your fingers.

  1. Turn off the machine's power switch.
Unplug the telephone line cord first, and then unplug the power cord from the AC power outet.

  2. Open the front cover and take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.

After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. When you open the front cover of the machine, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustration.

To prevent damage to the machine from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration.

  1. Gently clean the laser scanner window (1) by wiping it with a clean soft, dry lint-free cloth. Do not use isopropyl alcohol.
  1. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the machine.
  1. Close the front cover.

  2. Plug the machine's power cord back into the AC power outlet first, and then plug in the telephone line cord.
Turn on the machine's power switch.

To clean the corona wire:

We recommend that you put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly on a piece of disposable paper or cloth in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner.

  1. Open the front cover and take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
  1. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the blue tab from right to left and left to right several times.
  1. Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position.

If you do not return the blue tab to the home position, your printed pages may have vertical black stripes on them.

  1. Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back in the machine.

  2. Close the front cover.
