The following connection methods are available:

1. Infrastructure:
   When you select this connection, the wireless LAN devices (printers and computers) in the network communicate through a Wi-Fi® access point/router. If you connect a printer and a computer to a Wi-Fi access point/router, the printer and computer can communicate through the Wi-Fi access point/router. You can connect multiple printers and computers to a single Wi-Fi access point/router. Because you can prevent access by unauthorized users if you configure the security settings of the Wi-Fi access point/router, this mode can provide a higher level of security.

2. Wireless Direct:
   When you select this connection, wireless LAN devices in the network communicate directly with each other using secure communication without using a Wi-Fi access point/router.

3. Infrastructure + Wireless Direct:
   The Infrastructure mode and Wireless Direct mode can be used at the same time.
   Because the printer can have SSIDs for both methods, you can print from a computer using the Infrastructure mode and print from a mobile device using the Wireless Direct mode, for example.

4. Ad-hoc:
   When you select this mode, wireless LAN devices in the network communicate directly with each other without using a Wi-Fi access point/router.
   However, this connection provides a lower level of network security and the network performance is slower than when using a Wi-Fi access point/router.

   You cannot connect using the Ad-hoc mode for Windows 8.1 or later.
