How to setup the Printer RAMDISK.

If you have not installed an optional HDD or Compact Flash memory module into your printer but wish to use the RAMDISK feature within your printer to store different types of spooled data, you must firstly create a RAMDISK on your Brother (please note that not all Brother printers support this feature, refer to your printer user guide for more information).

How to set the RAMDISK:

There are two possible methods of setting the RAMDISK:

  1. Use the printer front panel
  2. Use the BRAdmin Professional Software

Using the Printer Front Panel:

To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. On the Printer control panel, press the "+" or "-" keys until you see "SETUP", then press the "SET" button.
  2. Press the "+" or "-" keys until you see "RAMDISK SIZE", then press "SET".
  3. Press the "+" or "-" keys to change the value, press the "SET" button twice to accept the setting.

Generally speaking a value of 2Mbytes is sufficient; however, please remember that the value you set will reduce the main printer memory by the corresponding amount.

Using the BRAdmin Professional Software:

To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch the BRAdmin Professional software, highlight the printer you wish to configure and select the 'Configure Printer' option.
  2. Enter the password for the printer. If you do not know the password, refer to the print server user guide, or ask your system administrator.
  3. Click the Advanced Setup folder and then scroll down the list until you see 'RAMDISK SIZE'. The default value is 0, so set it to the value you wish to use.

Generally speaking a value of 2Mbytes is sufficient, however, please remember that the value you set will reduce the main printer memory by the corresponding amount.

  1. Click the 'Apply' button to save the setting.
  2. You must switch the printer off and then on again.
