The drivers for your machine may not installed properly, try to create a temporary symbolic link to link the file "/etc/init.d/cups" or "/etc/init.d/cupsys" to "/etc/init.d/lpd" and install the drivers again.
For rpm users:
ln -s /etc/init.d/cups /etc/init.d/lpd
ln -s /etc/init.d/cupsys /etc/init.d/lpd
For dpkg users:
ln -s /etc/init.d/cupsys /etc/init.d/lpd

If SELinux is working on your system, some configuration for SELinux is required.
Set your SELinux "permissive" or refer the FAQ for SELinux.
