To clear the message "PLS OPEN COVER" from the display follow the steps listed below:

Pull the scanner cover release lever (located on the right-hand side of the machine). This will release the scanner cover, causing it to slightly rise upward.

Lift up the scanner cover until it locks into place.

Examine the inside of the unit to see if any paper or debris is stuck inside. If you locate any paper of debris inside the machine, remove it.

Close the scanner cover and press on both sides until you feel the cover lock back into the closed position.
If you located paper and/or debris inside the Fax/DCP/MFC and removed it and the machine's LCD still reads "PLS OPEN COVER", call Brother Customer Service for assistance.
