FAQs & Troubleshooting

When I print images, the quality is not good (Linux)

  1. Open /etc/cups/ppd/printername.ppd using a text editor.
(Where printername is your Brother machine's model name. It is not necessary to include dashes (-) in printername.)

    Example:
    MFC-J6910CDW
    /etc/cups/ppd/mfcj6910cdw.ppd

    MFC-J615W
    /etc/cups/ppd/mfcj615w.ppd

  2. Confirm that your Brother machine's ppd file has the *DefaultResolution setting.
  3. If it does not, find the *FreeVM: "1700000" line and add *DefaultResolution: 600dpi below it as follows:

    *FreeVM: "1700000"
    *DefaultResolution: 600dpi

  4. Run service cups restart.

If you change the Brother machine, repeat the steps 2–4, and then edit the ppd file that includes your machine's name in /usr/share/ppd.

    Example:
    MFC-J6910CDW
    /usr/share/ppd/brmfcj6910cdw.ppd

    MFC-J615W
    /usr/share/ppd/Brother/brother_mfcj615w_en.ppd
