What does it mean when the Error LED is red?

There are two conditions that can cause the Error indictor to turn red.

The tape compartment cover is open.
If the cover is closed, open and close it again.
There is no cassette tape in the machine.
If there is a cassette tape in the machine, remove and reinstall it.
