(Only available for some countries.) If you are only having problems sending faxes outside your area code, make sure you have long-distance service on your telephone line. If you do not have long-distance service, you will not be able to send long-distance faxes.
If you are having a problem sending a fax to one particular number, follow these instructions:
SECTION A:
Verify if the number is a working fax number.
Press (Fax) and Hook or pick up the handset of an external telephone.
Dial the number.
Do one of the following:
If the number does not answer with fax tones, it is not a working fax number.
If the number answers with fax tones, follow these steps:
Adjust the Brother machine's Compatibility setting. This adjusts the Brother machine's sensitivity to interference on the phone line by lowering its transmission speed:
Press (Settings).
Press the Up or Down arrow key to display Initial Setup.
Press Initial Setup.
Press the Up or Down arrow key to display Compatibility.
If the fax is not received, the problem is not the Brother machine.
There are several reasons you may be having a problem sending to that specific number. There may be a problem with the recipient's phone line or fax machine.
