FAQs & Troubleshooting

How can I prevent public users from changing the settings of my Brother machine?

Setting Lock is a feature that lets you set a password to stop other people from accidentally changing your machine settings. While Setting Lock is on, the following features cannot be changed without a password:

  • Date and Time
  • Station I.D.
  • Quick-Dial settings (Speed Dial, One-Touch, and Group numbers)
  • Mode Timer
  • Paper Type
  • Paper Size
  • Volume
  • Auto Daylight or Clock Change
  • Ecology (Toner Save and Sleep Time)
  • LCD Contrast
  • Setting Lock
  • Dial Restriction (for MFC-7340, MFC-7345N and  MFC-7440N)
  • TX Lock of Memory Security.

This feature is useful if:

  • You make extensive use of broadcast and automatic dialing capabilities. Locking the One-Touch, Speed Dial, and Group data ensures that fax broadcasts reach their intended destinations.
  • You use fax reports to help manage your business. If you require Transmission Verification reports to be printed with your faxes or the Fax Activity report prints at specific intervals, then locking access to report printing settings assures the reports will print in the intervals you have set.

Use the following steps to set up and use the Setting Lock feature:
