Cause

Incorrect upper threading

If the upper thread is incorrectly threaded, the upper thread passed through the fabric cannot be firmly pulled up and the upper thread becomes tangled in the bobbin case, causing a rattling noise.

Remedy

Remove the tangled thread, and then correct the upper threading.

  1. Turn off the sewing machine.

  2. Remove the tangled thread. If it cannot be removed, cut the thread with scissors.

  3. If the threads remain in the bobbin case, remove the needle plate, and then remove the threads.

If the bobbin was removed from the bobbin case, install the bobbin in the bobbin case correctly.
Refer to "How do I set the bobbin?".

  4. Remove the upper thread from the machine.

  5. Turn on the sewing machine.

  6. Press key (Presser foot lifter button) to raise the presser foot.

If the presser foot is not raised, the machine cannot be threaded correctly.

  7. Press key5 (Needle Position button) once or twice to raise the needle.

  8. While holding the thread with both hands, pull the thread up from under the thread guide plate.

  9. While holding the thread in your right hand, pass the thread through the thread guide in the direction indicated.

  10. Guide the thread down, up, then down through the groove, as shown in the illustration.

Look in the upper groove area to check if the thread catches on the thread take-up lever visible inside the upper groove area.

  11. Pass the thread through the needle bar thread guide (marked "6") by holding the thread with both hands and guiding it as shown in the illustration.

  13. Press key (Presser foot lifter button) to lower presser foot.

  14. Pull the thread up through the thread cutter to cut the thread, as shown in the illustration.

    (1) Thread cutter

When using thread that quickly winds off the spool, such as metallic thread, it may be difficult to thread the needle if the thread is cut. Therefore, instead of using the thread cutter, pull out about 8 cm (approx. 3 inches) of thread after passing it through the thread guide disks (marked "7").

  15. Press key (Automatic threading button) to have the machine automatically thread the needle.

  16. Carefully pull the end of the thread that was passed through the eye of the needle.

    * If a loop was formed when the thread passed through the eye of the needle, carefully pull the loop of thread through the eye to the back of the needle.

  17. Press the Presser foot lifter button to raise the presser foot.
Pull out about 10 cm (approx. 4 inches) of the thread, and then pass it under the presser foot toward the rear of the machine.

    • If the needle could not be threaded or the thread was not passed through the needle bar thread guides, perform the procedure again starting from step 7.
    • When using a needle or thread that cannot be used with a needle threader, manually pass the thread through the eye of the needle from the front.
