Set up a Brother machine and your mobile device on a wireless network

You can use a wireless router or access point to connect your Brother machine to your mobile device.

1. Connect your Brother machine to your mobile device without using a wireless router

You can set up a wireless network connection between your machine and a mobile device without using a wireless router or access point.

Follow the steps below to set up a Brother machine on a wireless network without a wireless router or access point.

 

1.1 Set up your Brother machine

 

  1. Press the Menu button on the machine's control panel.
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the Network option, and then press OK.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Wi-Fi Direct option, and then press OK.
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Group Owner option, and then press OK.
  5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select On, and then press OK.
  6. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Manual option, and then press OK.
  7. When the question Wi-Fi Direct On? appears, press 1 to enable the Wi-Fi Direct network.
  8. The machine will display the Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password) for two minutes.

    Write down the Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password). You will need this information later.

 

1.2 Set up your mobile device

 

When you have finished setting up your Brother machine, follow the instructions below:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.

  1. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

  1. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.

  1. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap CONNECT.

  1. The wireless connection setup is complete if Connected appears under the Network Name (SSID) you have selected.

2. Connect your Brother machine to your mobile device using a wireless router

Wireless Router

To set up your Brother machine on a wireless network with a wireless router or access point, follow the steps below.

 

2.1 Before you set up your connection

 

Write down the Network Name (SSID) and Network Key (Password) of your wireless router or access point. You will need this information later.

After checking the network information of your wireless router or access point, go to the next step.

 

2.2 Set up the Brother machine

 

  1. Press the Menu button on the machine's control panel.
  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the Network option and press OK.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the WLAN option and press OK.
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the Setup Wizard option and press OK.
  5. When the question WLAN Enable? or Enable WLAN? appears, enable the wireless network. The wireless setup wizard starts.
  6. The machine will search for your wireless network and display a list of available Network Names (SSIDs). Select the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier. Press OK.
  7. If the machine asks to use WPS, select No.
  8. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier.
  9. Press OK.
  10. Select Yes to apply your settings.
  11. The machine tries to connect to the device you have selected.
     
    If your mobile device connected successfully If the connection failed

    The machine's LCD displays Connected.

    The machine will print a wireless connection report. Check the error code on the printed report.

    The machine will print a wireless connection report.

2.3 Set up your mobile device

 

When finished configuring your Brother machine, do one of the following to configure your mobile device:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.

  1. If your Wi-Fi is turned off, turn it on.

  1. Find the Network Name (SSID) you wrote down earlier, and then tap it.

  1. Enter the Network Key (Password) you wrote down earlier, and then tap CONNECT.

  1. The wireless connection setup is complete if Connected appears under the Network Name (SSID) name you have selected.
