What do the indicator lights mean?

The indicators light and blink to indicate the printer's status. The following symbols are used in this FAQ to explain the meaning of the different indicator colors and patterns.

Green lit / Amber lit / Red lit Indicator is lit in the color shown
Green blinking / Red blinking Indicator is blinking in the color shown

 

LED Color Description Solution
Green lit Power is ON.  
Green blinking

- Downloading the data from a computer.

- The printer is paused.

 
Amber lit The printer removes data.  
Red lit Print Head open error Check that the print head is closed correctly.
Cutter error The media may become stuck at the cutter entrance or exit. Remove the stuck media. If this error continues, contact your Brother dealer or Brother Customer Service for assistance.
Red blinking Head open error Check the printer status and close the print head correctly.
Paper empty
  • Check that the media is installed correctly. If not, press the Feed/Pause Button to advance it for printing.
  • Check that the media is enough remaining. If not, replace the media with a new one. See the FAQ: "How to load the Media".
  • Check that the media passes through under the sensor.
Ribbon empty Replace the ribbon with a new one. See the FAQ: "How to load the Ribbon".
Memory full error The volume of data is too large to send. Adjust the data and send again.
