Improve my Brother machine's copy quality.
Listed below are instructions for various adjustments that can be made to improve your Brother machine's copy quality:
COPY QUALITY SETTING
Your Brother machine offers a range of Copy Quality settings. Each setting is appropriate for copying a different type of document:
Temporarily changing the Copy Quality setting
To change the Copy Quality setting for your next copy job, follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

Programming a new default Copy Quality setting

- If you would like to adjust the general copy quality, please refer to "COPY QUALITY SETTING".
- If you would like the copies you make to be lighter or darker, please refer to FAQ, "Make my copied images lighter or darker."
COPY QUALITY SETTING
Your Brother machine offers a range of Copy Quality settings. Each setting is appropriate for copying a different type of document:
- Normal: Use this setting for ordinary printouts. Normal mode is the default setting, and provides good copy quality and good copy speed.
- Fast: Use this setting when printing large documents, many copies of a document, or documents to be proofread. Fast mode provides fast copy speed and low ink consumption.
- Best: Use this setting is recommended for copying detailed images, such as photographs. Best mode provides the highest resolution and the slowest speed.
Temporarily changing the Copy Quality setting
To change the Copy Quality setting for your next copy job, follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.
- Do one of the following:
- For MFC Users:
Press the COPY key to illuminate it.
- For DCP Users:
Go to STEP 2.
- For MFC Users:
- Load your document.
- Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Quality.
- Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose a setting.
You can choose Normal, Fast, or Best.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start key to start copying.
<For touchscreen models>
- Press the COPY key to illuminate it.
- Load your document.
- Use the dial pad to enter the number of copies you want to make (up to 99).
- Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW to display Quality and press Quality.
- Press Normal, Fast or Best.
- Press the Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start key to start copying.
Programming a new default Copy Quality setting

- Do one of the following:
- For MFC Users:
Press the COPY key to illuminate it.
- For DCP Users:
Go to STEP 2.
- For MFC Users:
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Quality.
- Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose a setting.
You can choose Normal, Fast, or Best.
- Press the OK key.
- Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Set New Default.
- Press the OK key.
- Do one of the following:
- For MFC Users:
Press 1 to choose Yes.
- For DCP Users:
Press + to choose Yes.
- For MFC Users:
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.

- Press the COPY key to illuminate it.
- Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW to display Quality and press Quality.
- Press Normal, Fast or Best.
- Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW to display Favorite Settings and press Favorite Settings.
- Press Store.
Set Watermark Copy to Off or Template when storing Favorite Settings. - Press the location where you want to store your setting.
You can choose Favorite:1, Favorite:2 or Favorite:3.
- Do one of the following:
- If you do not want to rename your setting, press OK.
- If you want to rename your setting, follow these steps:
- Press to delete characters. Then enter the new name (up to 12 characters).
- Press OK.
- Press to delete characters. Then enter the new name (up to 12 characters).
- If you do not want to rename your setting, press OK.
- Press the STOP/EXIT key.
