FAQs & Troubleshooting

I'm having problems sending a fax overseas.

If you are having difficulty sending a fax overseas due to possible interference on the telephone line, setting your Brother machine's Compatibility to Basic may help.

To change your Brother machine's Compatibility setting, follow these steps:

  1. Press image(Settings).

  2. Press All Settings.

  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display Initial Setup.

  4. Press Initial Setup.

  5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display Compatibility.

  6. Press Compatibility.

  7. Press Basic (for VoIP).

  8. Press image(Home).

When you change the Compatibility to Basic(for VoIP), Error Correction Mode(ECM) is only available for color fax sending.

If you are still having problems sending overseas after setting Compatibility to Basic (for VoIP), try turning on your Brother machine's Overseas Mode.

Overseas Mode is a temporary setting, and will only be active for the next fax you send.

To turn Overseas Mode on, follow these steps:

  1. Load your document.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • When Fax Preview is set to off, press Fax.

    • When Fax Preview is set to on, press Fax and Sending Faxes.
  3. Press Options.

  4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to display Overseas Mode.

  5. Press Overseas Mode.

  6. Press On.

  7. Press OK.

  8. Enter the fax number.

  9. Press Fax Start.
