When I make copies, my Brother machine uses paper from the wrong tray.

To ensure your Brother machine uses the correct paper when you make copies, you can program your Brother machine to use a specific tray for every copy job or for the next copy job only. You must also make sure your Brother machine's Paper Size and Paper Type settings match the size and type of the paper you want to copy on.


To program your Brother machine's default tray use for Copy Mode, please follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press Tray Setting.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Tray Use: Copy.

  3. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Tray#1, Tray#2 or Auto Select.

  4. Press OK.

  5. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Complete.

  6. Press OK.

<For Touchscreen models>
  1. Press Tray Setting.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Tray Use: Copy.

  3. Press Tray Use: Copy.

  4. Press Tray#1, Tray#2 or Auto Select.

  5. Press Stop/Exit.


To program your Brother machine's tray use for the next copy only, please follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it in blue.

  2. Do one of the following:

    - Place the document(s) you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first until your Brother machine's LCD reads ADF Ready or you feel them touch the feed roller.

    - Place the first page you want to copy onto the upper left corner of the flat scanner glass.

  3. Enter the number of copies you want.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Tray Select.

  5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Tray#1, Tray#2 or Auto Select.

  6. Press OK.

  7. Press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start to start copying.
<For Touchscreen models>

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it in blue.

  2. Do one of the following:

    - Place the document(s) you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first until your Brother machine's LCD reads ADF Ready or you feel them touch the feed roller.

    - Place the first page you want to copy onto the upper left corner of the flat scanner glass.

  3. Enter the number of copies you want.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to display Tray Select.

  5. Press Tray Select.

  6. Press Tray#1, Tray#2 or Auto Select.

  7. Press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start to start copying.

To program your Brother machine's Paper Type for copying, please follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it in blue.

  2. Do one of the following:

    - Place the document(s) you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first until your Brother machine's LCD reads ADF Ready or you feel them touch the feed roller.

    - Place the first page you want to copy onto the upper left corner of the flat scanner glass.
  3. Enter the number of copies you want.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Paper Type.

  5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Plain Paper, Inkjet Paper, Brother BP71, Brother BP61, Other Glossy or Transparency.

  6. Press OK.

  7. Press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start to start copying.

<For Touchscreen models>

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it in blue.

  2. Do one of the following:

    - Place the document(s) you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first until your Brother machine's LCD reads ADF Ready or you feel them touch the feed roller.

    - Place the first page you want to copy onto the upper left corner of the flat scanner glass.
  3. Enter the number of copies you want.

  4. Press LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to display Paper Type.

  5. Press Paper Type.

  6. Press Plain Paper, Inkjet Paper, Brother BP71, Brother BP61, Other Glossy or Transparency.

  7. Press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start to start copying.

To program your Brother machine's Paper Size setting for copying, please follow these steps:
*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps of "For Touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it in blue.

  2. Do one of the following:

    - Place the document(s) you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first until your Brother machine's LCD reads ADF Ready or you feel them touch the feed roller.

    - Place the first page you want to copy onto the upper left corner of the flat scanner glass.

  3. Enter the number of copies you want.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Paper Size.

  5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Letter, Legal, Ledger, A4, A5, A3, Executive or 4"x 6".

  6. Press OK.

  7. Press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start to start copying.
<For Touchscreen models>

  1. Press Copy to illuminate it in blue.

  2. Do one of the following:

    - Place the document(s) you want to copy into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) face up, top edge first until your Brother machine's LCD reads ADF Ready or you feel them touch the feed roller.

    - Place the first page you want to copy onto the upper left corner of the flat scanner glass.

  3. Enter the number of copies you want.

  4. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to display Paper Size.

  5. Press Paper Size.

  6. Press Letter, Legal, Ledger, A4, A5, A3, EXE or 4"x 6".

  7. Press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start to start copying.
