How do I store numbers on my fax machine for easy dialing? (One-Touch, Speed Dial)
Storing One-Touch Dial numbers:
You can store forty fax or telephone numbers on your Brother machine's One-Touch keys, which can then be dialed simply by pressing the appropriate One-Touch key followed by the Start key. You can also store names with these numbers. When you dial a One-Touch number, the Brother machine's LCD displays the name or number as the call is dialed.
One-Touch keys are not the dial pad keys. They are the twenty keys (labeled 1/21 – 20/40) located on the left of the control panel. To access numbers 21 through 40, you must hold down Shift as you press the appropriate One-Touch key.
To store One-Touch numbers, please follow these steps:
- Press Menu, 2 (Fax), 3 (Set Quick-Dial), 1 (One-Touch Dial).
- Press the One-Touch key where you wish to store the number. The LCD shows the number you selected. If you have not installed the optional LAN board (NC-9100h), go to STEP 4. If you have installed it, go to STEP 3.
One-Touch key 1 has been preprogrammed with the Brother Fax Back system. You can delete this number and store another one there if you wish (see Changing One-Touch Numbers below).
- The fax machine will ask you what type of number you are storing. Use the up or down arrow key to select either "Fax/Tel" (a fax or telephone number) or "E-Address" (an email address). Press the Set key to confirm your choice.
- Enter the number you want to store (up to 20 digits) and press Set.
If you want to enter a pause in the dialing sequence (to wait for an outside line, for example), press Redial/Pause as you're entering digits. Pressing Redial/Pause enters a 3.5-second pause when the number is dialed, and a dash appears on the screen.
- Use the dial pad to enter the name or company name (up to 15 characters) and press Set. If you want to store the number without a name, just press Set.
- Return to STEP 2 to store another One-Touch number or press the Stop/Exit key to exit the menu.
Storing Speed Dial numbers:
Speed Dial numbers are stored as three-digit locations on the dial pad of your Brother machine. Once you have designated a number to a Speed Dial location, said number can be dialed by pressing Search/Speed Dial, # (pound sign), the three-digit Speed Dial number, then the Start key. The Brother machine can store 200 Speed Dial numbers. To store Speed Dial numbers, please follow these steps:
- Press Menu, 2 (Fax), 3 (Set Quick-Dial), 2 (Speed-Dial).
- Use the dial pad to select the three-digit location (001 – 200) on which you want to store the number and press Set. If you have not installed the optional LAN board (NC-9100h), go to STEP 4. If you have installed it, go to STEP 3.
- The Brother machine will ask you what type of number you are storing. Use the up or down arrow key to select either "Fax/Tel" (a fax or telephone number) or "E-Address" (an email address). Press the Set key to confirm your choice.
- Enter the number you want to store (up to 20 digits) and press Set.
- Use the dial pad to enter the name or company name (up to 15 characters) and press Set. If you want to store the number without a name, just press Set.
- Return to STEP 2 to store another Speed Dial number or press the Stop/Exit key to exit the menu.
Changing One-Touch and Speed Dial numbers:
If you try to store a One-Touch or Speed Dial number in a location where a number has already been stored, the screen displays the name or number currently stored there, then prompts you to either change the currently stored information or exit the menu.
- Press 1 to change the number stored, or press 2 to exit without making a change.
- Enter a new number.
- If you want to erase the whole number, press the Clear/Back key when the cursor is to the left of the digits. Everything above and to the right of the cursor is deleted.
- If you want to change a digit, use the left or right arrow key to position the cursor under the digit you want to change, then type over it.
- If you want to erase the whole number, press the Clear/Back key when the cursor is to the left of the digits. Everything above and to the right of the cursor is deleted.
