Even though I configured the settings to use a network, I cannot connect wirelessly. (When using a WLAN access point/router)

Please check the following:

  1. Is security software being used?
  2. Are security settings (SSID/Network key) correct?
  3. Are there any obstructions?
  4. Did you turn on the Infrastructure Mode of the printer?
  5. Are you using Mac address filtering?
  6. Did you turn off the WLAN access point/router or set it to the stealth mode?

  1. Is security software being used?
    • Did you grant permission when the security alert message appeared during a standard installation or BRAdmin Light installation or when using the printing features?
If you did not grant permission when the security alert message appeared, the firewall function of your security software may be preventing access. Some security software may block access without showing a security alert message. To allow access, see the instructions for the security software or contact the manufacturer.

    • Has the port number required for the Brother network features been specified?
The following port number is used for Brother network features.
BRAdmin Light: Port number 161/Protocol UDP
For more information on opening the port, see the instructions for the security software or contact the manufacturer.
  2. Are security settings (SSID/Network Key) correct?
    • Reconfirm and choose the correct security settings.
      1. The manufacturer's name or model number of the WLAN access point/router may be used as the default security settings.
      2. See the instructions supplied with your WLAN access point/router for information on how to find the security settings.
      3. Ask the manufacture of your WLAN access point/ router or ask your Internet provider or network administrator.
  3. Are there any obstructions?
    • Move your printer within about 1 m (3.3 feet) of the mobile device when you configure the Wi-Fi® network settings.
    • Move your printer to an obstruction-free area.
    • If a wireless computer, a device equipped with Bluetooth® function, microwave oven, digital cordless phone or other devices are near your printer or the WLAN access point/router, move the device away from your printer or WLAN access point/router. Also, you may be able to improve the communication by changing the channel setting of the WLAN access point/router. See the instructions supplied with your WLAN access point/router for information on how to change the channel setting.
  4. Did you turn on the Infrastructure Mode of the printer?
    • If you did not turn on the Infrastructure Mode of the printer, turn on the mode according to the following procedure.
      1. Press the [Menu], [Arrow] button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the [OK] button. Set [On/Off] to [On].
      2. Press the [Arrow] button to select the [Mode] menu, and then press the [OK] button.
      3. Select [Infrastructure], and then press the [OK] button.

  5. Are you using MAC address filtering?
    • Check the security settings of your WLAN access point/router and confirm that MAC address filtering is turned off or the MAC address of the printer is allowed. You can confirm the MAC address by pressing and holding the Feed button (Feed) button to print the printer information.
For more information, see the instructions supplied with your WLAN access point/router.
  6. Did you turn off the WLAN access point/router or set it to the stealth mode?

If you cannot resolve the problem after trying the above solutions, turn off the printer, and then turn it on again. If the problem still is not resolved, reset the printer to the factory settings and configure the Wi-Fi settings again.
