I am unable to change my Brother machine's Receive Mode.

If you cannot change the Receive Mode, Distinctive Ring, BT Call Sign or FaxAbility is currently on.


STEP I : Turning off Distinctive Ring, BT Call Sign or FaxAbility

Follow these steps to turn Distinctive Ring, BT Call Sign or FaxAbility off:

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.


  1. Press the MENU key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Fax.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Miscellaneous.

  5. Press the OK key.

  6. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Distinctive, Faxability or BT Call Sign.

  7. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Off.

  8. Press the OK key.

  9. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

  10. Please go to STEP II to change the Brother machine's Receive Mode.

<For touchscreen models>

  1. Press Menu on the screen.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Fax.

  3. Press Fax.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Miscellaneous.

  5. Press Miscellaneous.

  6. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Distinctive, FaxAbility or BT Call Sign.

  7. Press Distinctive, FaxAbility or BT Call Sign.

  8. Press Off.

  9. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

STEP II : Changeing the Brother machine's Receive Mode

You should now be able to change the Receive Mode by following these steps:

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

  1. Press the MENU key.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Initial Setup.

  3. Press the OK key.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW key to choose Receive Mode.

  5. Press the LEFT OR RIGHT ARROW key to choose Fax Only, Fax/Tel, External TAD, or Manual.

  6. Press the OK key.

  7. Press the STOP/EXIT key.

<For touchscreen models>

  1. Press MENU on the screen.

  2. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Initial Setup.

  3. Press Initial Setup.

  4. Press the UP OR DOWN ARROW to display Receive Mode.

  5. Press Receive Mode.

  6. Press Fax Only, Fax/Tel, External TAD (For some models), or Manual.

  7. Press the STOP/EXIT key.
