Points for protecting your Brother machine against unauthorized access over the network

We do not recommend you connect your Brother machine directly to the internet. Check the following points to protect your Brother machine against unauthorized access over the network:

 

  1. Please be sure to use a router or firewall when connecting your Brother machine to the internet as seen in the following images:

  2. Generally your Brother machine is protected from any unauthorized access if you use an Internet Service Provider and have set a private IP address on your Brother machine.

    You can check if an IP address on your Brother machine is a private IP address:

     

    1. Print the "User Setting list" or "Network Configuration(Network Config) list". Click here to see how to print the list.
       
    2. Check that the IP address printed on the list is within the following range:

Hint for using your Brother machine more securely in a network

You should protect the address book, fax settings .etc information registered on your Brother machine by setting a password.

You can set a password following the steps below:

NOTE: The screens may differ depending on operating system being used and your Brother machine.

 

  1. Type "http://machine's IP address/" into your browser's address bar (where "machine's IP address" is the machine's IP address).

    i.e http://192.168.1.2
     
  2. Click Administrator Settings.
    The default user name is "admin" and password is "access".

  3. Click Configure Password.
     
  4. Enter and confirm new password and click Submit. We recommend you implement a strong password.

  5. The information dialog appears, click OK.

  6. Click Configure Password (admin).
     
  7. Enter and confirm new password and click Submit. We recommend you implement a strong password.

Note for using Brother machines with memory card drives (slots)

If multiple users are using your Brother machine, we do not recommend you leave the memory card inserted. Remove the memory card every time you have finished using it.
